Smale Riverfront Park update video:

Smale Riverfront Park Spring 2013 Construction Update - YouTube

This park is turning out awesome. Once done we'll have one and a half miles of continuous riverfront parks, which will only extend if the Western Riverwalk project gets built.

Good press for Cincy and OTR.

Worst Neighborhoods Violent Crime in the U.S. - ABC News

Quote:
The "Over the Rhine" neighborhood of Cincinnati likewise has dropped from the 25-worst, he says. It too, has been gentrified, he says. Schiller calls that neighborhood's transformation "a wonderful story."

That was a joke when a small portion of Over-the-Rhine was included in the "worst neighborhoods" list. Once I learned about their methodology, I completely stopped taking that list seriously. Which is generally true of most lists measuring hard-to-measure things. However, they need to actually use neighborhoods and not arbitrarily-drawn boundaries that suit them.

I remember that too, and thought it was a joke. I don't take the lists seriously at all, but it is nice to see OTR get positive press.

Work starts on Clifton grocery
Quote:
Construction to turn the old Clifton IGA into an updated neighborhood grocery is really, truly under way after many months of delays.

Workers began removing the roof of the 29,000-square-foot Ludlow Avenue building this morning and will put on a new one as soon as that’s done, said Mike Ruwe, project manager for Reece-Campbell.

The Gaslight Market will be completed by mid-September, Ruwe estimated.

^ Yes, "the construction" finally begins, but what, exactly, will be the results of this long-awaited Clifton Gas Light addition? Many, many people (my wife and myself included) recall what the best of Keller's IGA was before its inglorious demise--and we expect nothing less as its replacement. ( Please consider this another one of such "benevolent" warnings and advice, Goessling!)

Keller's did have a decent selection. We shopped there before it closed down, not too long after we moved here.

That was such a massive blow to Clifton, and completely out of the blue. The whole thing is rather depressing. I'm not sure whether the eye-roll inducing Goessling fiasco has made things better or worse. If he didn't have claim to the space, might someone else have done something with it by now?
