I am hoping to get some opinions on East Walnut Hills. I read some old threads, but am hoping to get more recent opinions. There is a property on Moorman Ave we are considering buying. I have a 6 year old daughter, so I want the area to be safe enough.
Thanks for taking the time to post!!!

Default Inquiring about East Walnut Hills

My husband and I are considering purchasing a home in East Walnut Hills. I am a bit hesitant due to the neighborhood. I am hoping to gain insight and perspective on the area. We have a 6 year old daughter so safety is really important to us!
Thanks!!

EWH transitions from a rough area to the west of Victory Parkway to a nicer area heading east. Plus, Evanston is to the north of Madison which is rough in areas.

With that said, there are very nice areas in EWH, it really depends on the street. There are a lot of families in the area, and having shopped homes there myself, there is good housing stock to be found. Personally, I nearly moved there but just could not find the right home to fit my moving time frame and budget. BTW - I have a 5 year old son.

The EWH business district is quaint, but somewhat lacking in activity. O'Bryonville is a short stint down Madison, as is Oakley and Hyde Park. (For various amenities)

Thanks for your reply.
The house we are looking at is absolutely gorgeous... but I'm just not sure about the safety of the neighborhood. I worked at the CELC on the corner of E McMillan and Ashland. I felt safe walking around during the day. There were definitely car break ins; especially around Christmas time. The child care was broken into once as well. I'm not sure if I could handle my house being broken into...

Ashland isn't the best street over there. It's not terrible, but still close to Walnut Hills, and that section in particular has cleaned up somewhat but is still problematic. Things get a lot better as you go east. In the end, you will be the one living there and some folks aren't very happy in urban neighborhoods such as this. So, I won't try to talk you into being comfortable there.

I can say it's a nice area. The downside is it transitions from ghetto to well-to-do in short order. Ghetto being the downside.

Put things in perspective...the crimes you just mentioned happen in Hyde Park, Oakley and any other neighborhood.

Buyers don't seem to be too scared off from buying condos in the Schoolhouse Lofts on Ashland. I think what they did to that building is atrocious, but people still buy it. People are also lining up to get into the Verona on Park, and that's in no better location.

If only we could clean up The Alms...
