Did anyone else take a look at this link from the Enquirer?

See the state of your neighborhood and how it compares to others in Cincinnati | Cincinnati.com | cincinnati.com

I was shocked to see how much crime has risen in a lot of city neighborhoods in the last decade, especially East and West Price Hill. Yikes. With stat's like that, many city neighborhoods are going to continue to decline as people try to find safer places to live.

Thanks for posting, that is a really good resource. Some surprising results in there and some not so surprising.
OTR's crime rate dropped from 2000 to 2010 consistent with the big gentrificaiton effort and also consistent with what people have been saying about it improving. Mt Lookout, Linwood, Columbia Tusculum and Oakley also showed decreases. I was quite surprised to see Corryville drop 30% but again that's consistent with what many people on this board who live there say.
Madisonville showed a huge increase from 2000 to 2010 , 200% ! The only place with bigger increases than that was pleasant ridge but I know nothing about that neighborhood. Fay apartments was 3rd on the list but that won't surprise anyone.

Of course all these numbers probably have some issues, most particularly how large the neighborhoods are since small numbers can lead to dramatic fluctuations that dont mean much.

The increase looks large because the starting numbers were relatively small. According to this database, Pleasant Ridge has the lowest crime rate in the city, both in 2000 and 2010.

Yeah, the numbers look bad, but you have to keep the 2001 riots in mind. There was a huge spike in crime city wide in 2001 and the following year or two, but has been steadily decreasing ever since. The point is, the percentage change from 2000 to 2010 may or may not be the current crime trend in a certain neighborhood.

I saw the tool, but thought the article they put out sucked. I agree with the following blog on the subject. These problems are not new, but decades running. Not to mention the money pushing downtown and OTR's redevelopment is large in part raised by 3CDC and not from the city.

Which neighborhoods saw riots? I do remember reading about them. One year of high crime would not necessarily skew the overall crime rate for a decade beyond a few percentage points. But two or more years will have a very negative impact on the crime rate.

The riots were mostly in Over-the-Rhine, but the crime rate went way up city wide after that. I believe the rates stayed high from 2001 to 2003 and then began to decrease if memory serves.
