Hey - interestingly we had a bald eagle hanging out at work for about 2 weeks in December.

We have one of those little ponds (to contain hard-surface run-off), and he would hang out in the trees next to the pond. When I first noticed him and mentioned it to a coworker, no one believed me -- but then they had to go the building closest to the pond for a meeting, and everyone in that building was looking out the windows at the Eagle.

He took off after about 2 weeks ... I don't think the pond would have had enough to sustain him, but I assume he was just looking for a mate or new territory. Full white head, so an adult.

By the way, I work near Union Center on the edge of WestChester/Hamilton - so this isn't particularly a park-like or "natural" area.

Yay eagles!

Really thought that was a great article on Eagles in Hamilton County parks. I would have bet they disappeared from this area years ago.

My neighbor to the rear has a large pine tree in their yard in which a family of hawks has roosted for years. They had a batch of little ones this past summer. The wife achieves much pleasure from putting out food for the birds, squirrels, chipmunks, etc on our rear patio.

Another next door neighbor has a pair of Springer Spaniel dogs. I have a storage building in the rear yard under which groundhogs love to burrow. I am sure my neighbors would prefer if I had them exterminated, but I feel they are rather cute. Those dogs go nuts trying to get to them.

But back to the Hawks. Just a couple of days ago I saw one of the younger hawks sitting on the roof of my storage building. I knew exactly what was going to happen. Suddenly I saw a flash of flight and catching a small bird in midair near one of the feeders. That is Mother Nature in action. In this kind of cold weather that is nature providing for itself.

3 Cheers for the Eagles. Hope they regain strength in this region. I am a complete advocate for what nature can teach to our youth. Sometimes it is raw, but it is the truth.
