Rental/Lease Option Homes, particularly in Wyoming or Mason (Cincinnati: neighborhood, buy)

My family is looking to move to Cincinnati this summer, as my husband is accepting a position @ UC. We have a child with a physical disability and prefer a smaller school district (one reason why West Chester is less appealing). When we initially move to Cincinnati, we will likely need to rent because selling our current home may take some time. We hope to find an area where we can rent initially and then buy within the same school district so we don't have to uproot our child. We also have a cat and a dog, so that is another factor in where we rent.

We are a professional couple, in our late 30's. We don't require a lot of land and are looking for a place where we can interact with neighbors, get involved with the community, easily walk the neighborhood, etc. While the commute isn't crucial, it would be nice to live a short distance to the campus. (I know the commute can be a pain from Mason.)

What are the chances of finding what we're looking for in Wyoming or Mason? What other areas might you suggest we look? Thanks so much for your help!

Deer Park is a good option, but I'd say Finneytown is better. It's adjacent to Wyoming and is much more cheaper and down to earth. Their schools have great services for students with special needs too.

More diversity/more acceptance of other cultures/less blue-collaredness = more down to earth in my book. But who cares, both are good choices.

You might want to look at Glendale, also. While the school district is not small, its size gives it a lot of options, especially for kids who need special programs. Glendale's elementary school is small, with a teacher:student ratio, but if you like the program at other schools better, you can access other elementary schools in the district.

Glendale has a village and parks, places to meet neighbors. It's north of Wyoming and has a similar feel.

We have been keeping an eye on realtor sites in SW Ohio as our kids live in Hamilton and we are thinking of moving south when we retire. I came across one in Liberty Twp. Lakota School district that looks like it might be some place you could start. This particular one is available for purchase or lease. If you would like, I can PM you the link to the site. Please check the date of the origional poster ...The family was looking to move the summer of 2008...
