Mike... You sure know how to throw a wet blanket on a party. But I have to agree with you. Drinking and boating do not mix well.

And we have one of the biggest annual occasions coming up this weekend with Riverfest. To me, the banning of alcohol in the public areas, both sale and bringing in was a great benefit to the event, making it a better family oriented end of summer occasion. Having it on Sunday rather than Monday also helped so people do not have to worry about getting up for work the next day and be so anxious about getting home.

From what I can tell, the private boaters have been segregated up and down the river outside of the main public areas. Is this correct? I remember when the event first started and some of my acquaintances were invited for the day by people who had both large and small boats on the river. After a day of heavy drinking, they had absolutely no business on the water.

A good friend of mine who is an ex-Cincy Police Lieutenant once told me that the worst case senerio at Riverfest was a misfired firework landing in the middle of a group of drunks. 2nd worst case was a drunken boater knocking over a grill and a fire breaks out in the tethered boats (tethered to each other)

Both would cause mass panic spreading up the riverfront

Please check the date on the thread before posting. The original post is from 2009 and the most recent reply was 2011. I doubt the OP is still looking for assistance.
