But at least on I-75 you have some ability to contemplate what is about to happen.

This is true.

Anyways, OTR is dangerous... but it can easily be fixed. (Here in Cincy, easy things tend to take decades to get around)
Put it this way, OTR is about 70-80% vacant. The population of the neighborhood is a shell of what it used to be. Many times when I'm in OTR, I dont feel in danger at all...because there's simply no people in alot of areas.
One would think it would be easy to ressurect OTR, because you don't have to kick ANYONE out. All you need to do is fill in the gaps and move more people in. If the percentage of people contributing to society outweighs the percent of people being low lifes, then the neighborhood would bounce back. That DOESN'T mean everything needs to be converted into expensive lofts and condos

There are plenty of good, working class people in OTR that deserve much better than what they have to deal with. OTR should be a mixed income neighborhood, with cultural amenities, family oriented attractions, as well as attractions for the younger crowd. The key is...getting more people into the central city area. Reliable transit, Saftey (Police), good schools and basic amenities are REQUIRED for this to happen.

Northwoodsman, I DO NOT for the life of me understand your CONSTANT need to try to say Cincinnati is dangerous everytime there is something on the news. I think many people have been through this before with you and the neighborhood of Colerain correct? My question is WHY? That's all I want to know. What is YOUR problem with Cincinnati when you dont live here. Please explain.

The parking lot at the Eastgate Mall is dangerous, too.

I'm down here in OTR every day. Occasionally I see things that I would not see elsewhere but I think that OTR is on balance a nice place for some residents. First, don't be a pioneer unless you are willing to be a pioneer. Our forefathers set about to settle an unknown land without knowing what the perils were but knowing there would be perils. Same for OTR. If you want to be a pioneer, fine. A pioneer will move in to the Findlay Market area or upper Vine Street. And, there will be perils. It will also be pretty eclectic.

But, one doesn't have to be a pioneer to be in OTR. Look at the new houses on Sycamore Hill. Or where I am at the edge of Pendleton. Or Gateway. If you lived in those areas and didn't engage the locals on sex or drugs, I can't imagine a problem other than the safety of your cars. And, with inside parking that would not be a problem.

There is no place to go for a walk at night, but then I don't go for a walk at night anywhere, even if I could.
