Well, I would have to say that sf, and seattle are the best, and even portland is head and shoulders above la and sd.imean, la is great, except for theur downtown. And sd has no real downtown, its just a big tourist attraaction. Like seriously, little italy is ONE street. Wtf?? P.o.s!! So, my overall list goes
San fran

Does Condo City = San Diego?
It seems like to me, downtown San Diego is more liveable than Downtown LA, though I would say you are selling both cities' downtown way, way short. LA may be last on this list but it is still has a better/more liveable downtown than 90% of American cities (not to mention how far ahead the rest of these cities are compared to the US).
I am not familiar with the PNW cities, but from what I hear I'd say:
1.) San Francisco
2.) Seattle
3.) Portland
4.) San Diego
5.) Los Angeles
Yeah I don't see how Downtown SD is not very liveable despite how much of it is geared towards tourism. You still have most of the amenities you need such as grocery stores.
I'd put Sd below SF, Seattle, and Portland as well. LA is getting there but I don't think it has enough amenities to be as self-contained as the others yet.
Glad to see LA getting bashed for something again....
1) San Francisco
2) Seattle Real cool place, compact, a lot going on and things to do. It's got some hills though
3) Los Angeles Not as compact as SF but you still get that same "big city" vibe there.
4) Portland I like Portland and all, but I think it's turning into the west coast version of Austin: OVERRATED.
5) San Diego I like San Diego but not a fan of their Downtown. It seems sleepy and dead a lot of times. Still a nice place but I just like the raw/hustle & bustle of SF or LA more.
