Why does your poll say Marin County NY? That will mislead alot of people.

Probably only those who don't know Marin County and Nassau County. These people should probably not be voting in the first place.

Regarding "walkable downtowns", Nassau County has some like Farmingdale village, Garden City, Oyster Bay, Rockville Centre etc. A big part of the county is typical suburbia however. There is great access to NYC and some nice beaches.

If the OP is actually looking for wealthy communities than Nassau County has a large area of them - basically the Northeast part of the county. Old Westbury, Brookville, Old Brookville, Upper Brookville, Muttontown, Lattingtown, Oyster Bay Cove, Cove Neck, Mill Neck etc.

Tough to compare these as they both offer a lot but one is far more more urban. My only issue with Nassau is it is on LI, nothing against it (LI) outside of the traffic being horrid and it is very difficult to get on or off. Marin has some great natural beauty as well. I think most people though would be proud to call either home.

I think LI has the worst traffic in the country and honestly some parts of LI have rediculous commuter times into Mahattan; I know some people who live on the island that have longer commutes into the city than people who commute from Bucks County PA (a suburb of Philly) into Manhattan. But great schools and amenities, plus great access to the beach.

And that's the main reason people move to places like Nassau and Marin, because they want a(t least the illusion of a) quieter pace, bigger home, bigger yard, trees and a smaller feel.

If they wanted a bustling downtown, I guess they should stay in the city.
