I guess that doesn't really make a city 'strange'.... Minneapolis is unique in many ways

1) It's very small geographically. The total land area is less than 55 square miles. For comparison, LA has nearly 300 sq miles.

2) There are over 300 suburbs in the metro - 10 of which are over 50,000 in population.

3) The city is adjacent to a city with 290,000 people (St. Paul)

I always use the simple math of (CITY POPULATION/METRO POPULATION)
Cities similar to MPLS in this sense are Miami I know..

So, MPLS with it's 390,000/3,300,000 in metro gives us 11%. So the city only comprimises 11% of the entire metro.

Compare that to El Paso 620,000/750,000 = 82%.

So El Paso comprimises 82% of the metro area.. El Paso is also over 250 square miles in size.

Miami - 440,000/5,400,000 = 8% and Miami is nearly 55 sq miles like MPLS.

Many south cities will use annexation to eat up land and have a giant land area. Like LA, and then contract out to County public services like LA COUNTY police and Las Vegas' METRO police.

here, we have MPLS Police, Hennepin County Sherrifs, St. Paul Police, Ramsey County Police, etc
