Maybe I will be translator or interpreter in the US after my studies in France.
And these cities are apparently great for that, I hesitate between them.
I know the wages, for example, is really the best in DC for translators (much more paid than in Miami) and many jobs available in government but what is the crime rate (high, low compared to the US average), Miami is great for the weather and the tourism industry after all...Austin is very great about job growth, and certainly the most beautiful Texas city with good public transports...Houston is great because the housing is very affordable, job growth is huge, many projects expected in the city..etc...
I won't choose now,I've 2 or 3 years to decide but help to have an opinion.
you could also consider nyc and work for societe generale. they probably pay crazy amounts of money. i say go for DC first tho because the govt could probably use you and they pay 6 figures (or close to it) regularly. just get your foot in the door.
no but seriously, austin is the only city on this list that i don't really see as a viable option
No, its not going to be that useful in Houston either. In fact, its just as useful in Dallas as Houston, which is to say, not very. As you can see, Miami is by far and away the city that French would be most useful (aside from New York):
Population age 5+ that speaks French
New York 360,495
Miami 278,657
Boston 155,533
Washington DC 84,611
Los Angeles 60,179
Atlanta 46,034
San Francisco 43,376
Philadelphia 38,818
Chicago 38,341
Houston 21,069
Dallas 20,050
Seattle 17,599
Detroit 16,461
Minneapolis 13,387
Denver 10,488
San Diego 10,123
Phoenix 10,112

the dallas comment was supposed to be a joke (hence the little green kool-aid smiley). and of course washington and miami are going to be the much much better options. i'm just saying that austin is only city where i see a french translator being rather useless
that number for atlanta is very surprising, though
Given that you speak French, Miami would be your best choice. DC wouldnt be too bad either. It would be harder to put that to use in Texas.
I must give precisions
I will be able to speak french, english, spanish and russian Maybe choices are better like that ?
I red an announcement on a site where they wanted a native french speaker with a bachelor degree.
I love Miami, the weather is wonderful, it's beautiful and the women seem hot but I'm concerned about the crime rate, apparently it's a dangerous city, or only some areas ?
Washington DC has huge wages (unbelievable) and it's very beautiful (White House, Congress..etc...), but the cost of living is maybe very high too.
About New York City yeah it's a great city, I want to visit it one day but it's a little bit cold ^^ I live in a northeast climate here in France, I'm a little bit tired of that so I prefer a warm weather But if I don't find in these city I'll go to NYC, or LA.But these 4 cities are my favorite to work ^^
