I think the thing that separates places like ATL from Houston and NYC is the fact that while black culture is certainly thriving in Houston and NYC, it's not the majority culture of the area like it is in Atlanta. I think that's why Atlanta takes it all. Though I do feel like when you want black culture, once you get to Houston, NYC, Atlanta, and places like that, it really is just nitpiking from that point on. They're all pretty good.

Montgomery, Atlanta, and Greensboro all call themselves that. I don't want to get into a side discussion about that, but suffice to say that Atlanta was a major epicenter of the Civil Rights movement.

But when they say white people, they mean a certain kind of white person...I don't think they're talking about southern whites to be sure. Because funnily enough, blacks and southern whites have a lot more in common than the two sides probably want to admit (especially when it comes to speech patterns, food, and religion). But I digress.

My point is, that this "mainstream American culture" is really just a nice way of saying something else.

By the way, I'm not saying that us blacks should just limit ourselves to black culture. But there's nothing wrong with preserving the culture that you love and what identifies you. Much better than the homogeneous cultural umbrella that kazoo wants us all to stand under.
You, sir, are very correct. It is well known that flyingwriter/kazoopilot abhors anything Southern, so he could very well make this an entire diatribe against all Southerners, Black and White--especially since he mentioned food. What do Black folks eat that White folks don't? If he's talking about what we call "soul food"--and I pretty much assume he is--then that's the same thing White Southerners call "country cookin'."

But yeah, this whole "Black folks should act White" theme is rather irritating. As I said before, he doesn't have a clue how much Black culture has influenced mainstream culture and the fact that he sees the former as distinctly different and even at odds with the latter speaks volumes.

Correct me if Im wrong, but for the most part the black people that you see today aren't descendents of Africans who decided to make America their new home. Russian culture is not American culture, Polish culture is not American culture, Black culture IS American culture.

Dare I say that shows more of a sign of supremacy(I think people know what kind) and in turn, I offer wonder if said poster is even Black at all. I wouldn't be surprised if people from "hate groups" hit up boards like this and other on city-data, as well as others on the web.

There is an "urban culture" that African Americans created and continue to perpetuate. This is undeniable to me. You don't have to be AA to perpetuate this stereotype today but if you did and somebody said "why are you acting black" 9 out of 10 people would probably know what you meant. Note: this does not apply to all African Americans or other black people, but rather a stereotype that is unfairly associated with such.

He has always claimed to be multi-racial, but I just do not understand how someone who does not consider themself black (in the traditional sense) and who admittedly distances themselves from black culture always manages to find himself in just about every thread regarding black topics or the like.

I would imagine that I would be inclined to go in any other direction if my views were any where close to his, but he stops in each and every time to spew the same nonsense and derail what could have been a positive thread or sorts.

It seems a good majority of C-D posters believe Atlanta to be the Black Capital.

So if an individual doesn't agree lock, stock and barrel with the black community, he's a KKK member posing as black? Ridiculous. I'm posting a YouTube video proving I'm black, but I shouldn't have to. It's sad that in 2010, you either fulfill the stereotypes or you're ostracized by the black community.

From now on, I won't post on these types of threads. I'm done with this crap.
