I'm not getting at the rest of the NE, but NYC who is know for "creating it all". NYC takes from other places then doesn't give credit back for who started what trends. This is well known in many circles.
But Black DC has had influence on Black NYC. It's just not showcased to the masses that this is the case. From the local black owned clothing brands, the New Balances trend that Jim Jones refuses to admit to but everyone else vouches for. P Diddy, Biggie, Russell Simmons, all these guys would tout how DC (chocolate city) had influences on how they moved at street level. Same thing with the fashion stuff and Kanye's quote about DC style. NYC cats going back decades looked to DC as an example of how to take over "Black Americas" streets with various things, fashion, parties/club scene etc. Then Atlanta eventually took the torch with the clubbing/party aspect for AA's.

There are so many famous people from NYC and so many trends started in NYC that it's not even worth talking about really.

These are the most famous Black people from Washington, DC. These are people who are the very least "black famous," meaning that many if not most Black Americans would recognize them.

Also, no New Yorker outside of true hip hop heads will admit that go-go music was woven into hip hop music in the 80's and early 90's. A lot of rappers stayed at HBCU's when they were coming up. They were at Howard all the time.
