Arizona - Phoenix
California - Los Angeles(and also San Francisco and Sacramento)
Florida - Miami
Missouri - St.Louis(Kansas City closely behind)
New Jersey - Atlantic City
North Carolina - Charlotte
Ohio - Cleveland(and also Cincinnati)
Pennsylvania - Philadelphia
Tennessee - Nashville(then Memphis)
Texas - Dallas(tie between it and Houston)

And since someone mentioned it on the last page, I guess I'll throw this state in as well:
Mississippi- Jackson(then Biloxi and Tunica, because of the casinos)

No real reasoning for most. Just what popped into my head. I didn't view other results first so this is fairly natural.

I chose SF for California because my girlfriend lives there and I'm there every month. SF makes up the bulk of my California experience.

I chose Pittsburgh because I think of it as a more authentic PA town. Philly is close to Metro NYC, near the Jersey line and not far from Delaware. I get that it's the bigger city, I also get that my logic is seriously flawed. However, that's why it popped to mind.

As for the others? No reason at all.

Honestly in many ways this does make sense; Philly is somewhat of an outlier in PA overall and in many ways shares as much (in many ways more) culturally with NJ lets say as does overall to the remainder of PA. But also remember that ~50% of the states population lives within 50 miles of Philly and PA is a pretty large state. Now Philly is the city that pops to my mind for PA (but I was born here and have returned to reside here so I am poor barameter on that), but if just asked to associate a thought with PA I am not sure it would be Philly, as a state I think of mountains, small towns, rolling countryside etc.. In many ways I think people associate with the region as much as the state in the NE Corrider
