I'm getting ready to move with no job in a few days. Just me, my car, some essential items and $27,000 cash in the bank. So please help me decide which metro area to move to.
I'm 28 years old and gay, so I want a significant, quality, educated gay population.
I much prefer warm weather and can't stand cold weather and snow.
I will need the ability to find a sublet apartment for a few months, while looking for a job.
I don't want to experience major culture shock, coming from the Hartford, CT area.
I prefer to live in laid back, non-pretentious, less materialistic area.
I prefer living in a liberal/progressive environment; I'm a moderate though.
I love the outdoors, as long as it's warm outside most of the time.
Of course, the less traffic, the better.
Interesting topography is a plus.
Affordable housing is somewhat important...as long as it's cheaper than central CT.
Just some other pointers....I don't care about gay neighborhoods. I don't believe in self-segregation. Also, I know that Orlando is very touristy, but is it really that annoying? Orlando is the only place I've been to, out of these three cities. Obviously, I won't settle in any of these cities without first visiting. The ability to find a job is important, but I think I'll be at an advantage, since I hold a master's degree in accounting, am a good age, etc.
You're right about that. How about Portland, Oregon? It seems to fit your needs. But if you're dead set on one of these 3 cities, I'd suggest Houston. Has low housing cost, Warm weather, Pretty liberal, generally nice gay population...I'd suggest you visit Denver and Houston as soon as you can to see which you like better!
Location: northern Vermont - previously NM, WA, & MA

The weather in Portland sucks. Denver for most of the creteria. Though cold and snow comes around, not nearly as bad as it could be in CT, and Denver has lots of sunny days.
Houston without a doubt. All your criteria except interesting topography and traffic are fulfilled as long as you live within the loop. I'd recommend checking out the Heights and Montrose neighborhoods.
How do you figure that? The OP's criteria screams "Austin".
