Personally I think If Houston had the hot music scene it would double the growth rate while Houston already does well with yearly growth.Atlanta I think would cripple from not having the hot music scene which bring people from all over the country because of the work offered there for there careers.
I think in the up in coming years if Houston build a strong music industry the city would be a city to be reckon with.Houston being the fourth largest city in America could even wipe out cities reputation like
Atlanta and L.A. for there reputation of music because of the job growth currently have.

Houston can't control the weather they have, or the flatness. However, a great music scene can be ANYWHERE. There is nothing preventing Houston from having one of the hottest music scenes in the country. It would take time, but why couldn't Houston be 'Music City' or 'The Live Music Capital Of The World' instead of Nashville and Austin?

Everyone knows that Houston grew to become a major city on the backs of the Geto Boys success in the early 90s. "Mind Playing Tricks on Me" was responsible for about 12 percent of Houston's total GDP growth in 1991.
Also, Paul Wall was responsible for a major boom in the "grillz" industry in the mid-2000s that led to major job growth in the local diamond/gold/platinum trades... (Of course a lot of "grillionaires" lost their shirts when the "grillz bubble" collapsed around 2010)

Dee, both Houston and ATL have a strong business climate, they both have a low cost if living and both have a favorable birth rate.
They grew because of this not because of entertainment.
Houston weathered the recession better than ATL because of less speculation in the housing market and a booming energy industry.
