Eh I go to Maryland and I'm going to have to give a big NO to College Park. It doesn't match up to the other places you listed. Plus nightlife's been awful since the bars closed, and I think three or four stores/food places have closed as a direct result of less foot traffic.

For Cleveland, where I grew up, Lakewood is the most urban, followed by Cleveland Heights.
Don't forget about Skaker Hts, with its two rapid train lines.

I agree with Lakewood OH though.

Cambridge, Brookline, Watertown, and Somerville come to mind immediately for the Boston area.

Santa Monica is a classic urban suburb. It's denser than the city of Los Angeles. It's actually denser than the District of Columbia.

Considering the many blue collar communities outside of Pittsburgh, I would think that Clairton, Aliquippa, Homestead, Swissvale, Braddock, North Braddock, McKees Rocks, McKeesport, Duquesne, East Pittsburgh, Corapolis and maybe Wilkinsburg, among others would fit.
