I vote Texas as the most powerful state in the south.

California is the empire state of the nation....followed by Texas!

Yet New York is the Empire State... WE ARE THE ONLY EMPIRE STATE IN THE NATION! But that doesn't mean we're stronger than California or Texas though, just that NEW YORK IS THE EMPIRE STATE. There are no replicas.

Have you heard of the BosWash Megalopolis? DC isn't in the South, the US Census was invented in 1790 and at the time DC was listed as a Southern city, today its 2010 and the US Census hasn't updated the influence of the regions yet.
