Depends on what you define as "best", it's very subjective.

I think North Carolina has a fairly nice environment. It's a nice change of pace and scenery from my native Florida.

But I'm a sucker for tropical paradises, so I say Florida.

Of course, the answer is how much heat you like. I've constantly moved to cooler climates over the course of my life, so I would say that the High Country of NC (over 3000') is my favorite climate in the South, overall.

We just returned from NC and the weather near Boone was very pleasant. Do they get a lot of snow and how are the people? We are looking to buy a small hobby farm. We did go into SC for a bit but it felt quite a bit different than NC as far as the people that live there. We are from Southern California and are use to liberal easy going people.

The areas along I-85 in NC, SC, and down to Atlanta have the most moderate climates of the states you mentioned.

Boone gets a good amount of snow (about 43" per winter) and gets pretty cold. But summers are awesome. It's a nice college town and the people are nice. VERY familiar with the area. And conservative people are nice and "easy going" too. I should know, I am one, lol. Good luck wherever you guys land.

Florida without hesitation. Cold weather blows IMHO.
I love cold weather. Anything over 75 and I prefer to stay inside with the air conditioning set on 68! All of these states are too hot. The least bad climate of the bunch is in the mountain areas of North Georgia and the western part of North Carolina.

Florida is extremely miserable in the summer. Here is a book chronicling one women's escape from Florida.

Florida easily. All the others have fluctuating climates that are very difficult to deal with during the winter.

This is true. But I enjoy the extra 10 to 15 degrees of warmth we get over those areas on the coldest of days.
