I am from IL. I have a two year old daughter and am getting married soon (I know I did it backwards but she was a God send). I am looking to get into the National Park Service and my fiance is a mechanic. We are looking to move to a small community. Some things we are wanting in the new place are:
1. supportive community
2. place to teach child good morals (still seeking own religion, know what I want and believe but have not found the religion for me yet)
3. place with low crime rates and great education system
4. I do not want to be in HOT HOT desert (live in southern AZ for a bit, that was enough) I have to have trees and mountains (they make my depression disappear)
5. A place with plenty of recreational opportunities (fly fishing, camping, hiking, rock climbing, etc.)
6. place has to have some daycare or babysitters, they do not have to be licensed but someone i can meet and get to know before leaving my daughter with them
Also if you name a place and know of any places hiring, please let me know...we are wanting to find jobs and house before moving. We plan to move in 2 or 3 months.
Thanks for the advice, I appreciate it! Take Care All!
You might like places like Tupper Lake, Saranac Lake, Lake Placid, Port Henry, Ticonderoga, Peru, Malone, Potsdam, Old Forge, Glens Falls, Lake George, Plattsburgh and Keeseville, among some others.
If you're set on getting into the NPS, you may want to look first for the jobs for which you qualify, then research each location. While I suppose it varies by location, National Park Service jobs are highly desirable (and I've heard that it's a very family-friendly place to work), so you'll be up against stiff competition. Might as well start first with the job options, then work from there. The application process can take a long time, though, or at least it has for the positions for which I've applied.

Sir...i think you just described Boulder,Colorado With that list i just thought about boulder right away!
-Boulder has low crime rate
-good schools
-Extremely supportive community
-Nice mild summers, somewhat cold winters
-Rocky Mountain National park, Estes Park...ETC.
-And im pretty sure there are daycares in Boulder
-Chose Boulder! lol
At that, if you want a slightly larger city feel, Denver isnt that far away
And last time i heard, boulder econemy wasnt to bad, so there may be many job offers.
What about Northern Minnesota? It has some low mountains, and definitely has lakes and forests. Check into International Falls, Ely, Cloquet, Grand Marais, even Duluth if you don't mind a bigger city.
