I expected Vancouver to win, but I didn't expect it to be this lopsided. The two are really comparable cities -- same size metro areas, similar name recognition.
vancouver packs the punch of a city twice its size. indianapolis is just a boring bland city in the midwest that could disappear tomorrow and i would never notice.

Indy surprisingly has a lot of name recognition for the Indy 500, but Vancouver is known as Canada's "Hollywood" and its created a major name for itself internationally. Indy is known in the USA, maybe a few areas of Canada, Mexico, and maybe a few places in Europe if you're lucky while Vancouver is known in nearly most of East Asia, Oceania, Australia, U.K, France, much of Europe, & good deal of places in Latin America.
Being similar in size doesn't do anything, the size may be similar but the places are as different as night and day. I love Indy and after Chicago or Detroit's suburbs would be my next place to live in the Midwest tied with the Twin Cities but Vancouver is a little too much for Indianapolis. Both by power, name recognition, prestige, economy, notoriety from nationalities, and about everything.
The first time I saw Vancouver during a camp trip back a few years ago, I was astonished at how beautiful a place can be in the city and how packed yet clean it can feel. It reminded me of San Francisco except felt smaller, infinitely cleaner, and didn't feel all to "rugged" but more clean cut by image. It was a great experience that I hope everyone gets to witness one day, its worth seeing.
Vancou Metro Area - 2,116,581. Indianopolis Metro Area - 1,834,672. Though I'm surprised. I never would have guessed Indianopolis approached almost 900k.

indianopolis is almost 1000km2
you could prolly fit most of metro vancouver in 1000km2
These aren't even apples to apples. Vancouver would destroy Indy in every category except COL and race-car sports.
It's apples to apples. Indy and The Couve are both mid-sized North American cities. I chose these two because they were so different, yet still comparable. NYC vs. Sioux Falls would be apples to oranges.

Nobody around Vancity refers to Vancouver as "The Couve"...are you sure you aren't mixed up between Vancouver BC and Vancouver WA
Indianopolis would only beat Vancouver in friendliness, cost of living, some forms of dining (steaks, bbq, etc), sports, arguably shopping malls (US shopping is generally better than Canadian).
But very different almost incomparable cities.
