I did, and then the Rockets. But some people just have to point out that there are other teams that are doing better NOW. Who cares, Growing up OUTSIDE THE US, all I heard about was ROCKETS. Dunno how old you are but early 20's kids all around the world grew up with Bulls, Rockets, Magics, Lakers in the 90's.

Rockets familiarized me with Houston before NASA. going to little villages in Africa and South America you don't see little kids running around in NASA Jerseys, they are rocking Rockets jerseys.

I would say Denver is in the top 5. Everywhere I go in the world everyone has heard of Denver.

Here is a list of the most popular teams world wide:

The world’s most popular sports team? It’s not the Yankees, Barca, Real, Man Utd, Liverpool or the Lakers. It’s . . . Galatasaray « Sporting Intelligence

As far as pure name recognition goes (and not knowledge of the city itself), in my travels, Dallas is moreso than Houston. Atlanta and Miami above both Dallas and Houston.

Actually this makes sense to me and seems similar. I still believe that many, especially Eurpoeans remember the TV show Dallas and that even though getting older assists in this. Also Texas is known and most people think of Dallas as the Texas city so to speak, or at least top of mind

I mean, but you honestly hear nothing about it. Well, in my opinion. Like would you say its popularity is up there with the likes of Paris, NYC, or London???

I honestly forgot what Sydney was until I joined City Data lol

LOL...But still. I'm sure most people know Houston from history books, and books about space, moreso than the Rockets. And YES, I am 22. I grew up with Magics, Rockets, Bulls, etc, etc in the 90's. But I mostly grew up with the Spurs/Lakers in the late 90's early 2000's.

Yeah; Dallas has more recognition than Houston. It just goes to show Houston needs to work on garnering more publicity and attention. Only time you hear about Houston is when its related to Oil/Energy/Medicine/Space. It fail as far as pop culture.

so why you complaining?
bet you heard of the Rockets long before you found out where NASA controls all those spaceships.
