The so-called Ferguson Effect is just a theory at this point and considering the entire metropolitan area, the violent crime rate in particular registered a very small increase from 2014 (the year Ferguson experienced social unrest and riots) to 2015--from 398.4 incidents per 100,000 inhabitants to 401.0. A much larger increase occurred from 2011 (400.9) to 2012 (408.6), which was before Ferguson. There are often upwards and downwards fluctuation in crime from year to year, but the overall violent crime rate in metro Atlanta (as well as most other places) is way down from a decade and a half ago when it was 617.2 in 1999.
