so? what does that have to do with having a lot of hometown support or being behind your team 100%

in ny, everyone is always behind the yankees, knicks, giants, jets, mets, rangers, islanders, etc etc. where is that in cali?

What does having the top team in baseball in 2010 have to do with sports? You're beyond help, man.

Winning a championship does not automatically make for a good sports city at all, just look at places like Phoenix and Miami.

Regardless, SF is plenty proud of the Giants. There are murals, everyone wears Giants hoodies and hats... it's not like the entire city is a bunch of metrosexuals wearing purple who don't like icky sports

I was just making a general statement about that and wasn't really referring to SF as I don't think it's as bad as some people make it out to be. But yes the bandwagon is overflowing now

I can't believe no one in this thread has mentioned SAN DIEGO. It has to have some of the most fair weather fans in the country. The Chargers have trouble selling out, the Padres rarely sell out and even when they're good they generally don't fill up Petco as much as they should. And they've lost two NBA teams due to attendance issues.

San Diego, Miami, Phoenix, Atlanta, Tampa and maybe Seattle and Houston.

And I don't know why people are saying SF is one of the worst. It's in CA so that automatically negates it from being on of the best but it's not one of the worst. I'd say LA is probably a little worse than the Bay Area.

The Warriors have been horrible for a very long time but manage to have very good attendance despite that. When they made the playoffs a few years ago they had the highest average ticket prices and I don't think the fans sat down at any of the home games. I'm not a Warriors fan but I go to a lot of games and they have great fans. If they could put together a playoff team they would easily have one of the loudest arena's in the country.

The Niners sell out every game despite playing in one of, if not the, most god awful stadiums in the country. Candlestick is just a giant dump.

The Raiders are an odd team. They have rabid, loyal fans that I would never call fair weather. The amount of people with Raider tattoos I've seen at my gym is disturbing. LA still has Raider teams stores there. BUT they can't sell out their games and have a ton of blackouts. I'm sure their attendance started to suffer when CA passed its Three Strikes law. Maybe when CA is forced to release 30,000 inmates from it's overcrowded prisons due to a federal mandate, that may help attendance. Although the new gang injunction in Oakland may dampen that a bit since that prohibits gang members from hanging out with each other. Although they could buy single tickets and by themselves in different parts of the stadium.

As much as I dislike the Giants they have good fans even before their ONE lucky world series title. Although I do think it has to do with the fact they have a very nice ballpark because they're last ten years in Candlestick they had very bad attendance on par with what the A's pull today, but The Stick was straight up ghetto back then with lots of fights. Despite being a historically inferior team to the Athletics, they have always been the more popular baseball team in the Bay Area. You gotta hand it their fans, they stuck by them despite the fact it took over 50 years to finally win a championship. The A's won a their first championship less than 5 years after moving to Oakland, which was part of a THREE PEAT that only the Yankees have also accomplished in baseball. Then they won their fourth WS in 89, which was a SWEEP against the Vagiants. (no offense JMan haha) Yet the Giants remain the most popular team in the Bay. They have a great atmosphere at AT&T Park, even though half the people are just socializing and aren't even paying attention to the game but many teams would kill to have their attendance and atmosphere. Alright I'm done boosting the Giants now, back to bitterness and spite for them, ha.

The Bay Area may not be the best they aren't the worst at all.

Go A's btw, the team is handing out MC Hammer bobbleheads this Sunday. How awesome is that? haha

I completely agree. I know one hardcore Chargers fan whose family has been season ticket holders since the 60's (supposedly anyway). He doesn't even live in SD. And I know one other who has always been a loyal fan but actually grew up in SSF and Hawaii. The rest I know all started appearing in the last 10 years, so you know, fairweather.

LOL all good bruh. At least you have the balls/decency to acknowledge the truth about the team's support when I imagine it must be tempting to rip them haha. And I think the A's do get a raw deal when it comes to acknowledging all that they have accomplished over the years. But damn man, the A's fans that are truly dedicated like yourself or about 100 of my friends are eclipsed by the fairweather fans that start making noise all of a sudden ONLY when the A's are winning.

I had like 3 or 4 friends talking A's baseball on the regular on my Facebook feed a few weeks back, and no more than that making so much as a peep when we swept you guys. And most of my Giants folks stayed quiet too. Then all of a sudden y'all come back and sweep us, and THE SECOND game 3 was done I heard so much sh*t talked it was ridiculous! Lol. So I give it to those of you who are true fans, and I know our numbers are completely diluted right now with our overfilled bandwagon (which is annoying as hell btw lol). But I'd be lying if I didn't say the majority of A's fans are fairweather. I'm sure I don't have to tell you b/c I'm pretty sure I've heard you vent about that crap too, but I do respect the ones like you who keep it real.

That's all I've been trying to say. And I don't understand how so many people seem to think we're as bad as people are putting us in this thread. I've supported my teams my entire life and the vast majority of my friends have too. I've gotten in fights with people over this sh*t. I don't even know what percentage of my wardrobe is representing my teams, but its significant. My family has been going to Niner games at Kezar since the team was created.

But somehow sports don't matter that much here, apparently. *Shrugs* Whatever. Outsiders' perception doesn't negate the reality here, and I don't miss out on having a great time going to our games just b/c some folks think we're not spirited.

Really the only thing that boggles the mind about this is when I watch games in other stadiums. I've been paying attention more recently (in the last year really) b/c I've heard so much crap online and from hater-ass raider fans, etc. so I've been watching to see how much louder and more wild folks supposedly get. And I really haven't been impressed.

Even last year before the Giants had any expectations, watching us play in Atlanta sounded like a golf tourney, while our home games had all kinds of life. This year's not even worth getting into b/c of our recent success, but for the Niners its the same thing. There are only a handful of stadiums in the league that were as loud or louder than the Stick wherever we played, so I really don't get what some folks are talking about. Seattle's louder, Soldier Field is a little louder when we play there, and there are a few others.

But for example, our home games against the Saints on Mon. night and the Eagles which I was at were crazy loud! You wouldn't have had the announcers commenting on us chanting, "We want Carr!" when Alex was f-ing up too much if we weren't. So I'm really not feeling folks on this one. We might not be the top spot or even top 5, but how are we supposedly among the worst? Just doesn't make sense to me.

I'd have to say Atlanta. I mean honestly to regularly not sell out tickets for playoff games... pathetic. they've also lost not one... but two NHL teams... pretty sad.
Internet or not, I'm surprised people didn't get that joke right away. It's hard to believe any die hard sports fan would believe that I meant what I said.

Not that awesome, considering MC Hammer never played major league baseball and the team is 12 games behind Texas.
