Which two cities resemble the relationship DC and Baltimore share the most? Baltimore and DC don't really consider themselves one metro area even though they are so close. They don't even like each other and are culturally very different. It is very weird to be so close physically yet so far away in everything else. What other cities share this type of relationship while being so close.
Dallas-Fort Worth
San Fran-Oakland
San Fran-San Jose
Oakland-San Jose
Boston-Providence
Orlando-Tampa
Minneapolis-St. Paul
Raleigh-Durham

As long as you don't bring up government spending, I am referring to the fact that these two metro's are night and day from each other but they are right next to each other. I was asking if there is another example of two cities that don't really like each other and are culturally two different places but are physically a few miles away.
DFW have always had an uncomfortable relationship. One is viewed as cowtown and the other as snooty and uppity. They function as independent fully autonomous cities, yet share a lot of the same infrastructure. I see a number of similarities with the Balto-DC relationship.

Sounds similar to the cities of Norfolk and Virginia Beach Virginia. Neighboring cities in SE VA who cant agree or cooperate on anything. They are like night and day, black and white (literally), or urban culture vs. suburban culture. They are the two leading cities in the metro. The citizens are very provincial and do not care for one another. The cities are basicly right next door to one another and it would be hard for an out of towner to tell where one city ends and the other begins. Va Beach backed out of a light rail project some years ago that would have connected the two cities and began a regional lightrail system, and is currently on the fence today about extending Norfolks new light rail into the city.
It is not Boston Providence. Boston is about 3x larger than providence and almost 40 miles away.
DFW is much closer because both cities are much closer to each others size. adn cross commuting is more common between DFW so they are in the same MSA too.
Washington, D.C./Baltimore = San Francisco/San Jose
This is easily the closest comparison.
