Which city is more notorious for Mafia activity between the Depression era up to present? New York City or Chicago?

The Five Families are in New York and the Outfit is based in Chicago?

Basically nothing of it left in Chicago to any degree that gets press. I guess I'd go with NYC then if they actually have anything going on right now.98

The Chicago Outfit was the most powerful crime family from the 1920s thru the late 1980s. The Chicago Outfit controlled organized crime from the Alleghany mountains all the way to the West Coast.

The Chicago Outfit's seat on the Commission represented not only Chicago, but Kansas City, Cleveland, Milwaukee, Los Angeles, and controlled organized crime in Los Angeles and Las Vegas.

Only in the late 1980s and early 1990s did they lose their grip and now are heavily depleted.

NYC has 5 families but they too are a shadow of their former selves although people say the Gambino's are the most powerful.

This is the most ridiculous of statements! The 5 Families run the entire US MAFIA. The Outfit answers to the Commission. Ever heard of Lucky Luciano? He had way more power than Capone. He was the boss of bosses.

NY has 5 families, In Chicago its only The Oufit so NYC but most of these orginizations have been dismantled in recent years.

The Outfit was one of the top three families. Dont know if it was the most powerfull but some considered the most cut throat of all the families. They basically controlled everything west of the Mississippi.

Except for the Vegas casinos, which were controlled by Moe Green and Hyman Roth, and then bankrolled by the Molignari family in New York.

-Source, Michael Corleone (Godfather, Part I)

"You think you can come to Las Vegas and talk to a man like Moe Green like that?!?!?"

"Fredo, you're my older brother. And I love you. But don't ever take sides with anyone against the family again."

Son,

The Outfit was never ever a part of the 5 Families homey. Where do you get this stuff from? And if any of you think the Mafia is dismantled, think again. That's like someone claiming that we are winning the war on drugs.
