Among these would probably choose La Jolla (feels like a little paradise to me whenever i have been), maybe back bay second. Midtown is not my fav area of NYC at all, many others I would choose. Currently I am quite happy in Rittenhouse but not an option
I guess I would say Georgetown, DC as I really love that part of DC but why no Upper East/Upper west side for Manhattan? I would easily pick either one of them along with Rittenhouse Square, Center City over any other on the list. I would hardly say Midtown is the most affluent.
Midtown Manhattan and Edgewater really stand out as bizarre choices. Midtown would not even be in my top 20 neighborhoods to live in NYC no matter what my price level was.
Edgewater (Chicago) is a mixed bag from what I have seen, the last thing that comes to mind in that neighborhood is "affluent".
I got Midtown Manhattan and Hollywood from a list of affluent neighborhoods in America.
Actually, I had the same reaction to "Hollywood" being on the list as you're having.
Not all of these neighborhoods came from the list. I threw most of them in there.
For example, I'm not listing each as to say that IS in fact the most affluent neighborhood of its city, because I don't think ANY of them are, but I threw in Edgewater because I can't think of a better place in Chicago to put than there. Where would you suggest?
As for Hollywood, I can think of plenty of neighborhoods around LA that I'd rather choose, but I can also think of plenty of places around Atlanta that I'd pick over Buckhead as well. I was trying to keep them even. Maybe I didn't succeed at that, but oh well.
From a LA native perspective, definitely not.
Hollywood Hills, yes. Beverly Hills, Brentwood, Bel Air, Holmby Hills, Hancock Park, are some of the areas that come to mind when talking about affluent LA city/neighborhoods.
La Jolla!! You can dine at good restaurants on Prospect, go to the beach at La Jolla Shores, go shopping at UTC and you're very close to downtown San Diego/Gaslamp Quarter and Del Mar.
I was going to say... Hollywood is not generally "affluent."
There are some expensive, recent apartment/condo towers and a few nice houses, but most of the rest of the city is working-class: the people who keep the city going for $12/hr, the people who are small-time bit actors and actresses who pick up a job every few months and wait tables the rest of the time.
If we're referring to the Hollywood Hills, those are their own neighborhood that's totally separate from Hollywood, and all the houses with big lawns that are close to Hollywood are to the south in Hancock Park... Hollywood has more in common with East LA than it does Hollywood Hills, and Hollywood Hills has more in common with Bel Air.
The wealthy neighborhoods in "LA" (as a blanket term) would be Beverly Hills, Bel Air, Hancock Park, Santa Monica, Malibu, Manhattan Beach.
