I'm a younger guy interested in moving to either of these 2 places. Anyone got a data sheet of daily costs in both places? I don't want to pay a lot for rent (not more than 900) and car insurance has to be relatively cheap (I hear FL is more expensive.)
Night and day buddy. LA is not expensive as NYC but its up there. Miami is VERY affordable. Good 2 bedrooms in 1000-1200 sq. ft. apartments in south beach can be had for @1400-1600/ a month.

$900 a month wont get you anything too nice alone. For example a 700sqft loft in Downtown is gonna cost you at least $1100 a month in Miami.
You can't just look at what rentals are and compare, you have to look at what kind of money you will be earning in each city to see how much disposable income you will have.

That's not expensive, that's somewhat the same as Houston and New Orleans.
Why those two out of all places? I can understand picking between LA and San Diego... But LA and Miami? They aren't really similar IMO, though I could see where somebody might get that idea...

Yeah, you should check out LA and California in general. I've lived in both FL and CA...they are very different places. You would not be wrong to think there is more to do around the LA area, you are a few hours to Vegas, a few to SD, bit more you are in Mexico, San Luis Obispo, Santa Barbara, Yosemite, Grand Canyon, and you can go to SF also going north instead of being in Jacksonville in the same amount of time. It isn't exactly my own cup of tea, but there is a reason people like it. I'm more of an nyc/chi/toronto person.
As I said in another post recently, it's not just about the city, but where it is located. Also LA is MUCHHH bigger than Miami, not really comparable honestly.
