How do they come up with these lists?? They are absolutely retarded! What is their methodology!!

Chicago number 2 only behind Miami. Philadelphia number 4?? I understand the other three: Miami, LA, and Phoenix.

In fact what I think what many people consider to be "materialistic", or "superficial", or "fake"

And why is "insecure" supposedly the opposite of vain??

When I think of the word vain, I generally consider that putting a high priority on fashion, grooming, etc. Chicago and Philly have a more sporty and intellectual culture.

I'm usually the one to put Chicago in its place, but Chicago is not vain. In fact, honestly I would probably say, (despite the fact that Chicago is a lot bigger and in better shape in terms of gentrification) I would actually put it closer to Detroit and Cleveland.

And Dallas?? Dallas, along with Atlanta is like the smaller, more laid back, southern version of LA.

I seriously don't know where they come up with these lists.

It's a self-rating survey...who's gonna admit to being vain?

Denver has always had an inferiority complex. Despite being a fine place to live, and one that grows and grows, people obsess about our cowtown image and character like it actually matters to anybody but a handful of hand-wringing elitists who think we ought to be more sophisticated.

It's odd that places that are growing as quickly as Denver and Dallas would actually be insecure about themselves. Who cares if you aren't where the world wants to spend a vacation when the world is coming to your city to live?

It is based on a majority of factors: How good people think they look, how well they take care of themselves and rate their appearance, how much money is spent on their hair, makeup, hygiene, etc. Basically physical confidence. People are polled, and people in Miami, Chicago, Atlanta, Philly, and Phoenix rate themselves on a high level in all categories. Basically the self esteem of the populous.

Im not surprised about Miami being on the list or even Atlanta. I am surprised than Dallas is insecure. I feel that Philadelphia is vain in a different way than looks, I feel than many Philadelphians think their city is the best city their is, whether that is true or not.
