Here is Q2 2011:

DC Metro = 1,023,500

Chicago L' = 708,300
Metra = 306,600
Total = 1,014,900

Obviously if you add D.C.'s VRE and Marc commuter rail, then D.C.'s numbers are even higher but we were only putting all of Chicago's systems against D.C.'s metro system by itself.

Totally not trying to be petty, but if you throw in the SouthShore trains it puts you ahead by a few thousand over DC :-X

I'll stop now!

LOL...ok that's cool. I guess DC will have to bring in reinforcements from MARC and VRE. I thought we wouldn't have to use them but it seems we are out numbered....lol. That should give us a sizeable lead. Your move....

It's hard to compare the CTA to Metro. Metro is a hybrid commuter/urban rapid transit system. CTA is a strictly urban transit system.

Soon Minneapolis will be on of the best, they are currently working on light rail systems that go all around the cities, connect it to St. Paul, run though the U of M campuses, and they will extend all the way up to the northern suburbs 40 miles away!

I LOVE the SouthShore... the only surviving interurban; a throwback to intercity transit in the olden days... It's an American treasure.
