Is there anything Chicago offers that NYC doesn't? (best, state, places)

Aside from the lake, should I consider visiting NYC a second time as opposed to checking out what Chicago's got to offer? The last time I was in NY was roughly 10 years ago, and it was only for a few days.
Off the top of my head....
Kayaking in the middle of downtown among the skyscrapers
going to the beach downtown
five star cuisine that is only found in Chicago
Of course the observatory deck in the sears tower
Chicago style pizza(that's actually good lol)
Navy pier
a really good bar city( NYC is more of a lounge city)
.......that's all I could think of for now but I'm sure there is more
Easy: a beach/people-friendly waterfront right at, or near, downtown. As I've long said, Lake Shore Drive is like Park Ave with beach-front property: goregeous, high-end high-rises right on the water (and Lake Michigan is so blue-green/clean and lovely)... NYC's few beach fronts are far to the south, ie Brighton Beach and Coney Island, places most tourists (and a whole bunch of NYers) never see. Manhattan's waterfront sucks imho. South Street seaport is a fraudulent, area created to play up NYC's very weak waterfront; I almost never go there unless I'm visiting friends.
Other things? Chicago just projects as a cleaner, more open, less arrogant and friendlier atmosphere than NYC. Chicago's more laid back and down to earth and, as a midwesterner myself, I relate much more to Chicago. Chicago is less diverse and more racially stratisfied than NYC. And unlike the City That Never Sleeps, Chicago does go to bed (ever seen Michigan Ave after 2p? -- I have, with it's empty streets and lonely street sweepers trolling the ave). Times Square, on the other hand, is ALWAYS on.

Absolutely. I think the concept of trendy bars, and sports bars in particular, is a Chicago invention. Chicago is more of hard-core sports city. New York, because it is so big and so diverse, really doesn't have a core of people who live and die with it's teams... For every Yankees' or Giants' fan, there is an equal number who are into NYC's cultural vibe (for example) who could give a damn about sports... In fact, it is that aspect that really turns me off about New York. (I call it the Ivy League mentality: that somehow being bad in sports proves that you are smarter); and, of course, New York is ground zero (pardon the expression) for the Ivy League ... It is full of cultural/intellectual snobs who look down on sports fans, as if it's some kind of anti-intellectual, lower class activity. Obviously, such a mentality is nonexistant in in Chi-town.
Really hot summers and really cold winters. Oh, and Gary.
