According to CensusScope - the top 5 most segregated cities are (in order):
Gary, IN
Detroit, MI
Milwaukee, WI
New York, NY
Chicago, IL
It's difficult, because NYC isn't segregated in the same way that other cities are. A lot of people choose to live with their own race, but other people are more than welcome to live in that area, and travel through it. It seems like in other cities that segregation is more of a tough border, or just simply a line you don't cross.
chic or nyc....too many "ethnic enclaves" .... its like sure we have some streets here with a couple persian stores ...or a chinatown ...but too many times i hear chic'ans/ny'ers talking about "yea so and so is a jewish neighborhood" or "this is a polish neighborhood" ...here there could be a vietnamese pho place right next door to a taqueria and no one cares really
nope...mexicans , african americans, salvadoreans, VARIOUS asians all populate east l.a,south , etc
even white people live in those areas..
but tell me a white person wouldnt look weird walking around brownsville bk
Yes, and there's areas of NYC where a lot of different people live like Astoria, Brooklyn Heights, Jackson Heights or LIC, etc too.. I'm sure the same goes for L.A. People seem to classify the neighborhoods in a weird way... they might say such and such is a white neighborhood, but a lot of Hispanic people and Asians can live there too... it's just all stupid really.
Personally, I look at things from a cynical view. I want things to get better each day, but I have a hard time believe they always will because of what I have seen and experienced. Racism and segregation are all over this nation and the difference now is that many people just lie about it. Laws have changed. Attitudes take time to change. They should change quickly, but they don't. Some people say the South is better. I live in the South, and I feel otherwise. Some say the North is better. I read history and I see otherwise. Personally, I have come to a conclusion that segregation is all over, at least socially.
I am not saying that it can't keep improving because anything can happen. With that said, there are still people out there who are very prejudice.
