I'm just not totally sure it's what you're expecting/looking for. If you're not fond of big city life, then Columbia may be a better choice, because that's what you're going to get if you move to Des Moines.

I suppose if you really do prefer Des Moines, you could look at houses in Indianola or maybe even as far out as Pella (both smaller communities that may be closer to what you're looking for) and just commit to making a long commute every day.
Major city, lol. Maybe if you're from Decorah.

I'm not from Decorah, Ronnie, you know very well I'm from Des Moines. As a matter of fact, I grew up in Minneapolis.

Well I guess it makes even more sense then. Like everyone else in Des Moines, it's basically smaller-scale NYC or LA. People really believe that. Besides the local fanaticism, it's an ok city.

Des Moines is a major "regional" city. Depends on how you define major. I don't think anybody is saying it's a Chicago or even a St Louis or Indy. But It's still a major metro area.

Ive never been fond of big city life. Ive always liked corn fields and farm type land which is why I've thought of Iowa.
I would like to be in a conservative state, but not extreme conservative. Iam republican but I dont wish ill on the blue states ether.

The freedom to own a gun is very important to me the weather though isnt because no matter where you live its ether going to be hot, cold, dry and so on. As far as jobs I also have job offers in those two cities which is another reason I picked those two cities. Iam 50 and not much into the night life except dining out here and there. Which city do you think would be best for me? Hope I have not asked for too much lol.
Why not live right outside of Kansas City?

Thought of as NYC, LA, Boston, or SF locally (on a smaller scale) for some reason, doesn't make sense, but it's true.

^It's not true and everyone knows it's not true. He made this crap up years ago and now he's said it so much he believes it himself. Best to just ignore it.
