"Soca" is an abbreviation of "soul calypso."

Soca is to calypso what rap music is to rhythm and blues, basically. It's silly lyrics over high tempo beats. It's actually not even appropriate to analogize soca to rap music because some rap actually does have substance whereas soca is made exclusively for the party scene.

The difference between SOCA AND CALYPSO

Friends told me about the LA vs. Miami culture:

LA is the South Beach of the Pacific & Miami is the Hollywood of the Atlantic.

Both cities have nice beaches, but the people are fake & plastic to be like so-called celebrities.

I'll visit & enjoy both beaches, but I definitely don't want to live there.

No, it's most certainly not.

It's the other way around actually. The 24 hour party vibe of Miami (which has a significantly later last call and 24 hours in the entertainment district) is incredible, especially in the winter time.

I actually think the nightlife in LA is way overrated (bars close at 2am, reminds me of Boston with an early closing time) and not one of the city's strong points. Cities like Las Vegas and New Orleans have better nightlife and are more vibrant at night and Miami's core entertainment areas are significantly more walkable.

Las Vegas vs. Miami would be a better poll.

I'll say Miami for nightlife.

I've always thought LA has a good nightlife scene for locals (as locals don't usually go to the tourist areas)

Miami is great for tourist if you live on South Beach.

LA's party scene is too underground for tourist

Edit: And do & I dont get how people say LA isn't walkable for nightlife. There is like 6 or 7 different nightlife hotspots in LA and nobody in my life has ever suggested to drive from one destination to the next. If your in overrated Hollywood, stay in Hollywood. If your in DTLA, stay in DTLA. Same with Santa Monica, Echo Park, West Hollywood, Koreatown....just stay in those areas.

Side Note...LA would suck as a tourist driving around in a short amount of time. LA is about taking a step back and enjoying the city over time. Can't do that if your there for 3 days.

Sorry if I hurt your feelings.

You do you want to file a lawsuit & take me to court?

I'd rather be sleeping at 5 am than in a club or bar.

These cities are totally in a different tier. Miami's nightlife is more comparable to a city like Ibiza.
