PS Fun fact about Sunny: It was originally going to be set in LA and titled It's Always Sunny in Los Angeles. Which is a name that makes a lot more sense, when you think about it.
Yeah. They have gotten more ballsy in the past few seasons and even began photoshopping the skyline into some scenes. Some of the show is shot in philly though each season, with them filming a few dozen scenes in a week or so and bouncing. They play the South Philly stereotypes so well it wouldn't have been right called something else.
You can say this about any city though. I am sure I could easily find a street view from SF's Financial District that could be mistaken for Toronto or Denver, or 25 other cities.
Pretty much *any* street view in SF's Financial District could be mistaken for Toronto or Denver, or 25 other cities, as a matter of fact...
If the shot includes Jackson Square, I could see New Orleans. If it's just of the downtown skyline, I think New Orleans is about as recognizable as, idk....El Paso, or Toledo or something...
NYC, SF, and DC are probably the only cities in America instantly recognizable to world masses. Then perhaps LA, Vegas, and Miami, maybeeeee Chicago to some extent.
I doubt any other city is.
Miami looks pretty much identical to Panama City. You need to get out more if you think Miami is more instantly recognizable than Chicago.
Would just have to make The Gang more LA centric scumbags as opposed to Philly ones. Could be pretty good, but Philly is more unique (plenty of shows with LA centric scumbags).
That's exactly what it is in the pre-pilot episode before they switched cities. They're all failed actors, not terrible bar owners.
Hah. Then yeah that's what I mean by Philly being more unique. The failed actor thing in retrospect would have been disappointing coming from them, since I (we) now know how talented and creative they are collectively. I'm sure they would of done a great job regardless though (I didn't watch the vids above, on phone with 7% battery left).
It only takes the Hollywood sign to recognize LA. It only takes the GG bridge to recognize San Francisco.
It only takes one landmark as well, to identify NYC. Why can't you understand that the same holds true for another city?
Yes, NYC is more well known, but thats not the question.
Everyone saying that the Hollywood sign is recognizable sort of bothers me because it's literally a sign with words naming a neighborhood. That's like saying the "Welcome to Las Vegas" sign is recognizable for Las Vegas. Obviously...
LA has many other traits that people could recognize, but the Hollywood sign is sort of a dumb one to point to for purposes of this thread. This thread is about people's ability to recognize cities by their appearance... And not really about "which city has a big old sign with its name on it!?"
