Hello City Data. I am a first time poster here. I am a gay male in my late 20s living in rural South Carolina. For years after college, I have been obsessed with moving to New York. However, due to some unforeseen life circumstances, I had to remain here to try to live my life. Sadly, the social conservatism of my area has forced me to keep myself in the closet and has kept my social life to a bare minimum. Instead of trying to move to New York due to my paltry life savings, should I try out Philadelphia? Or maybe even a closer southern metro area like Atlanta or Charlotte to see if city life truly is for me?

Hell at this point, even a move to Columbia or Charleston sounds like it would be an improvement.
