After a long search, my girlfriend and I have narrowed our relocation plans down to Bend, OR and Missoula, MT. Both places seem to be very similar as far as outdoors activities with Bend appearing to win in the weather category, although winters are real in both places.

Any opinions on which of the two cities is the best bet for us? We are in our late 20's / early 30's and are looking for the best spot to plant roots and get involved in the community. I know both areas are growing, Bend especially, so hopefully this will provide for more career opportunities in the future.

That being said, if you were to pick either Bend or Missoula based on lifestyle, outdoors recreation, and quality of life alone, which would you pick? Any opinions would be much appreciated.

They're fairly similar but from a location perspective I would choose Bend over Missoula as it's fairly isolated from big cities and would require flying or long drives, versus Bend which is three hours from Portland and a nice option for a weekend day trip if desired.

I suppose from an outdoor type perspective they are similar but Missoula has a LOT more going on over all because of the University. It is sort of like Eugene but smaller with a touch of Boulder thrown in.
