This is a common misconception. Between the four largest Texas metros, there is not a significant difference in political leanings and social attitudes of residents. Anyone comfortable in Austin would be comfortable in the cores of Dallas Houston and San Antonio. If a person desires a more conservative environment, the suburbs of either city would suit them best.

How did you overlook the fact that they said they wanted a hilly or mountainous environment? That's Austin.

In was gonna say Austin...seems to be where most Cali people move to and a lot of the reasons you listed are why me and my significant other moved from Chicago to Austin.
