I have been researching cities to move to after college and these two are both my top choice but I can't decide between them because I love each for different reasons, so I thought you would be able to offer some guidance. I thought I would write a bit about myself to help you advise me:
- I am introverted, quiet person. I am not very social and prefer my own company however I do like to keep a few close friends and would like to spend time at gigs or sports games (football and baseball). I am also not that fond of overly-crowded areas which is putting me off of NYC. I know Seattle is also crowded but I can deal with that amount IMO.
- I am into music and spend my time writing my own pieces. I would like a city that is very music-central, which both Seattle and NYC are...
- Weather-wise I prefer the rain and overcast with a few days of sun in the summer and fall. I hate humidity and heat so would prefer to avoid those.
New York City is very crowded, very hot/humid in the summer, and in my opinion caters more toward the social type. Although because the city is so big its pretty easy to stay anonymous and do your own thing. New York also has one of the best music scenes in the world.
I've never been to Seattle, but I do know that its a far more laid back, less-crowded, slower city than New York. Also, the weather there seems to fit your preferences by a mile over New York City, which is miserably hot and humid during the summer. I'm sure Seattle has a good music scene as well, just not in the league of New York.
Chicago is crowded, but nowhere near the level of New York. It gets colder and windier in Chicago during the winter. Its also cheaper in general then both New York and Seattle, and again I think caters more to people on the social side. The good thing is, its a massive city so theres bound to be plenty of introverted, less social people around. Can't comment on the music scene as I have no idea there.
Yeah I thought the title of the OP should be "why I like Seattle and don't like New York."
