Mine's actually said the Metroplex but I changed it awhile back.

Why change it? The Metroplex is more mysterious.

growing up, we were always under the impression that the 'Twin Cities' referred to Bloomington-Richfield

I cannot put my finger on it but somehow "Metroplex" seems very odd for Dallas-Fort Worth.

Dallas, and even more so Fort Worth have this traditional Texas image IMO. You know cowboys, country music, Tex-Mex food, rodeos, cattle ranches in the countryside. Even if that image is partially stereotype, at least it is somewhat unique. Metroplex, on the other hand sounds like it could be anywhere.

In contrast, Minneapolis and St Paul have been known as the Twin Cities for so long that they are the best answer for this thread.

I kind of see San Antonio and Austin growing together in a similar way to Dallas and Fort Worth. Might have The Junior Metroplex soon.
No, we just want you to stop calling FORT WORTH "Dallas".

For one, Dallasites mostly HATE the stereotypical cowboy image. The Wild West image isn't as celebrated on the east side of the Metroplex as it is on the west.

Second, we're one of the top 5 largest metropolitan areas in the country with Dallas (over 1 million) Fort Worth (over 750,000) Arlington (over 350,000) and about 4 or 5 towns with over 100,000 people. Add all the other suburbs and towns in the area and the image of a "Metroplex" for DFW isn't exactly farfetched...

"Metroplex" will always be a Transformers base, to me.

The term "Dual Cities" and eventually "Twin Cities" has been used for Minneapolis-St. Paul since the 1870's (Civil War Reconstruction, for perspective), when Dallas was still a town of 3,000. That may not be specific proof that it is more recognized today, but it definitely speaks to the fact that the nickname has been around much much longer than "Metroplex."

I personally like the cowboy image, it seems to make Texas stand out a little bit from the ordinary standard America.

In any case, the populations you mentioned can basely fit into Brooklyn and Queens. And wadda you know? Brooklyn has a MetroTech Center!

MetroTech Center - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

And that I think that is the problem with the metroplex name, its kind of generic.
