You really only see ranch style in the Valley. In the basin it is almost all Craftsmen and a smattering of Spanish style, particularly in certain neighborhoods. If I had to pick a vernacular for the basin its probably the dingbat apartment. Of course most people hate those - but I actually like their strange style.
Does the LA area have similar homes to the San Diego area? I do love the Spanish style homes.
I never said that LA was dominated with sfhs or mansions. I said that LA was more known to provide extravagant mansions. C'mon man you're reaching. Im not trying to insinuate anything about LA at all.
Fair enough, though I never said you said that
However there are a lot of people who think LA is something out of The Hills and that everyone lives in nice little SFH neighborhoods with a decent size backyard and a pool. I feel like in the LA basin, if you live in a SFH you are more likely to have a tenant in backyard unit than you are to have a pool!
I hate the new google maps. Anyway. Most of Houston's housing stock is 1950s and 1960s suburban housing stock or pre world war 2 shotgun homes. However, this is what I was saying when I was talking about the newer SFH's in Houston. Unfortunately some have garages in the front. Some, however, do not and they look pretty attractive.
I wouldn't put it up there with Chicago or Philly. Don't know much about LA to get a feel of their stock. But Houston's is getting better. Houston does have some decent Victorians too. I think mostly in Heights though.
Some were nice but I always felt that these types of developments were severely misguided. The stucco looks ridiculous and there is almost no uniformity in the respective neighborhoods. The whole no zoning thing Houston has going just isn't as endearing as the locals seem to think.
I will always stand up for Houston having a crazy amount of variety, but when it comes to attractiveness, it is really hit or miss.
I love that building - used to be on my route to Runyon. Those are the kind of dingbats that are my favorite. They also almost always have awesome names.
