Okay, so it wasn't until a couple of days ago that I even learned what "The Metroplex" is. Apparently, it refers to the Dallas/Fort Worth metropolitan area, and as most people probably already know the Twin Cities refers to the Minneapolis/St. Paul metropolitan area.

I can't hide my bias on this one, I obviously think The Twin Cities nickname is FAR more well known than The Metroplex nickname. However, I'd like to hear from you, which nickname do you think is more popular and why?

There's a major league baseball team called The Twins. I'm surprised this one's even up for debate. Metroplex was coined in the 1970s. Pretty sure the Twin Cities designation goes back a lot further.

Metroplex no doubt.

EDIT: For nicknames, the Twin Cities

The Twin Cities designation does go back further. However, I think that the further you live from both areas, the less likely you will know the nickname. I didn't understand why the Twins were called the Twins for a pretty long time. Growing up in Minneapolis, it would be obvious early. In fact, I originally thought Monroe and West Monroe, LA were the "Twin Cities" because of an auto shop I saw there when I was young. I picked the "Metroplex."

The question really shouldn't be "Is Twin Cities more popular than the Metroplex?" A better question is "How much more popular is Twin Cities than the Metroplex?" I'm willing to be the difference is negligible.

Whoa....I can't believe you never heard the term "Metroplex" until a few days ago. I've heard many national TV news shows say "The Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex" when talking about the weather or about something happening in the area.

Twin Cities
The Metroplex
The Valley of the Sun
The Puget Sound Area
Metrolina
Daytonatti (new one I heard last year in Cincinnati)

All of these.

I find it strange too. Hell everyone in Atlanta uses DFW and The Metroplex in equal amounts. But I guess not every place is the same.

Honestly, I'd never heard the term "Metroplex" until I saw this thread a few seconds ago.

Needless to say, I voted for the Twin Cities.
