Reliant is a very homely looking stadium.
NRG Stadium looks like the belle of the ball sitting next to the Astrodome.

Well Brazil not only built new stadiums and roads, they also built new subway systems in various cities. Which is something the United States isn't doing.

....so?

So it doesn't have the architecture of a classical Greek coliseum. So it's not sleek and ultra-modern.

The purpose of a stadium is to house sports and events, not look cute.

On top of that, there's not one bad seat in the house. Perfect sightlines all around...

How many cities are needed to host the world cup? I would think that most cities with two or more pro sports teams (meaning they would be a large metro with a big airport and lots of hotel rooms) and an NFL sized stadium could host the event. So that's like 20-30 cities. It just a few soccer games. I think most mid to large US metros would have little problems hosting or selling out their venues for such an event.

The US was planning on having 18 host cities for 2022.

So I guess the largest cities with outdoor or retractable roof NFL stadiums should work. It would probably be something like this narrowed down to the final 18?

Seattle
SF
LA
SD
Phoenix
Denver
KC
Dallas
Houston
Chicago
Cleveland
Cincy
Nashville
Pittsburgh
Baltimore
DC
Boston
NYC
Philly
Charlotte
Atlanta
Miami
Tampa

I agree with all of those except Tampa and the fact that Orlando is missing, in regards to Florida host cities it makes no sense whatsoever for Tampa to be selected over Orlando, Orlando has a much larger soccer market than Tampa, a new stadium, a larger airport than Tampa, and is a destination city unlike Tampa..

I was just thinking of the stadium situation and figured Tampa has an NFL venue, what stadium would they use in Orlando? Their new MLS stadium woudn't be large enough. I don't follow college sports, so if they have a large college stadium, I guess that could work.

As long as you have 11 or 12 venues, you'll be fine. Qatar will have 6 stadiums located in Doha for the 2022 World Cup. So how many cities needed would be dependent on how many venues you're going to have in each city.

So one (relatively small) city will have (or build) six stadiums for one event? That sounds pretty ridiculous, but I guess that's the price some will pay for exposure.
