Of the two listed metropolitan areas, Chicagoland and Minneapolis-St. Paul, which is the best area for college graduates seeking abundant (or good) job opportunities, good outdoor recreation (especially fishing and parks), and decent, affordable housing? What metro is best for interracial relationships? Overall, which area has the best quality of life?

As someone who's lived in Minneapolis - Chicago! However, I think they both have all the things you are looking for (Chicago has more) and a good quality of life.

1)Chicago is best for college grads. (or I think so) but Minneapolis and St. Paul aren't too bas either.
2)Out door activities would go to Minneapolis I think, although Chicago does have Lake Michigan. I would find a cool (probably mosquito infested though) summer forest by a small lake. Chicago is no way inferior to this but you would have to drive quite a bit out of the way.
3) affordable Housing would probably be a little better in Minneapolis (unless you plan on living on lake Michigan or downtown then Minneapolis is probably way better)
4) Interracial relationships? assuming you mean you want another white person (assuming you're white) then Minneapolis is probably slightly better, Chicago again is no way inferior. but if you also mean getting away from anyone who isn't an American citizen Minneapolis is better too. unless you're Hmong(who are Asians) , Chicago will serve you better if you are of African, Asian, or Latin decent.

so overall, probably Minneapolis, but like I said Chicago is no way inferior to your criteria.

I prefer Chicago, but by your desires, Minneapolis may be better.

In my experience, having lived in Chicago and having family in and around the Twin Cities: Chicago for college grads, Mpls for outdoors, both have affordable housing (although both are expensive by most Midwest standards), Chicago is better for interracial relationships, and QOL is too subjective and personal to decide.

Have lived in both, and without a doubt, the Twin Cities. More manageable, realistic, etc. 20 F500 companies, better schools, a lake everywhere you turn, #1 park system, #1 bike system, etc. For me, Chicago is more of a tourist city. If my family wanted to catch a Cubs game, it was an all day hassle. In the twin cities, I can be parked downtown in 30 minutes for only $5.

Que? There are many super desirable burbs of Chicago, and there are many that are basically the same as their Twin City counterparts.
