Than Los Angeles / California has America's first high speed rail under construction that I'm sure will influence other cities & states to do the same, Plus Florida just surpassed New york in population not long ago . New York had it's time at the top just like Rome, London & Paris but nothing or no one is at the top forever. This Eastcoast bias has finally got to stop.

Atlanta? LOL. Atlanta isn't even the most influential southern city (that would be Houston). Have you completely lost your mind?
Who cares about New York State? Or states for that matter? This thread is about cities.
New York City has by far the biggest population of any city in the country and it will never ever be surpassed, unless the city is wiped away by a catastrophic disaster.
NYC will also always be influential because it's the financial capital of the world. Money is of greater influence than ghetto Atlanta rappers, or whatever silly thing went through your head to make you think Atlanta is somehow "influential".
London is also still at the top. It hasn't gone anywhere. If anything, New York and London are doubling-down as the Alpha dogs of the world, with the unprecedented flows of international money pouring into these two cities.
Los Angeles destroyed America with what we know as Hollywood. New York has kept it real since Day 1.
Everything from Beiber, to Miley, to Kardashians, to every other lame pop artist/actress that's out is thanks to L.A.
The only things Los Angeles does good at : Weed , women (although lots of fake/plastic/anorexic), weather, scenery, rap music (90s)
I'll take Long Beach if I had to choose living in the west coast. I can't stand Hollywood and all the fakeness, plus the air quality is a joke.
Then how come I go home to NYC I witness neurotic people complaining about their lives everyday? If it's not the wind, it's the rain, it's the snow, it's the smell, it's the summer air quality etc. I guess being neurotic makes you more real or something?
No question NYC has influence, but I think any true New Yorker will say that it's influence has been subdued since Manhattan has become Money Island as opposed to what it was back in the day.
Finance industry? Who cares. I seem to remember how banks got bailed out in a panic about 6 years ago.

Money is the most influential thing in the world, Mr. Clueless.
Thread is about influence, not which place you like better. I was born and raised in Los Angeles and can see why someone would prefer Los Angeles just as one prefers an apple to an orange. But that has nothing to do with the premise of the tread.
As long as the big banks remain in New York, it will always have the greater influence. We think about money, our accounts, our stocks, investments, our mortgage, and growing our wealth more than we think about weirdos and "artists" in Hollywood. Well, at least normal tax-paying people do. That's a fact.

Yeah because the 2nd largest city in america is ONLY filled with weirdos and artists. Must be some nice crack to smoke out in Dallas.
Really closed minded rationale. Just because New York is a hub for finance that means it has the most power? An industry that almost got shaken to the ground 5 years ago because of bad decisions?
