I don't know about Polk County, but lots of people in West Volusia (most notably Deltona) commute to Orlando.

Its not about arbitrary commute times but whether or not its part of the metro area. If I were counting one-hour commute times Baton Rouge and New Orleans would share a metro area.

Yes but those two are central cities, we are talking about suburbs to central cities, suburbs will only grow so far from the central city before the growth isn't with the central city. Same reason why you're not gonna see Mobile and Pensacola become metro (which 20 minutes less of "commute" than baton rouge to NOLA

I didn't know they were both central cities.

The 2 becoming the same metro is hampered by the fact that they're in DIFFERENT states (not impossible, but harder).

Pretty sure state boundaries have no affect on metros. Plus there's plenty of multi-state metros. Such as Memphis TN (MS) metro, Natchez (LA-MS) metro, Kansas city metro, New York Metro, Columbus Metro (GA-AL), Eufaula metro (GA-AL) to name a few. Looking at changing commuting patterns, Mobile may likely get a MS county by the time the of 2030 Census in its metro

You can add Debary, DeLand and Orange City as well. There are a lot of good jobs in Lake Mary, which is very close for Volusia residents.

Was in Mobile recently and this is exactly what I thought.

With Mobile having the original Mardi Gras, a Catholic community, and being part of the once Spanish empire south of the 31st parallel, it has a lot more in common with New Orleans than Birmingham or Montgomery.

Not really. New Orleans doesn't really consider anything outside of New Orleans city limits. Not even Baton Rouge. The only place they consider comparable is Lafayette.

Seems more a prideful thing NOLA has. Both Cultures are derivatives of each other
