I don't think this list is going by metro area, because it has Denver and Aurora listed separately. It also has Dallas and Arlington listed separately.

I think it'd be more useful to look at the full metro, because even Salt Lake City proper is liberal, but its metro area obviously isn't.

Interesting that Austin, a city that is known as the most liberal city in America, is so far down on the list. DC is liberal enough to pass strict gun control, legalization of marijuana, & be one of the first to allow gay marriage, but I would think with Portland's culture it would be ahead of DC

Austin is not known as the most liberal city in America. Maybe the most liberal city in Texas, but that's about it. It is conservative though in relation to SF, Boston, DC, and Seattle. The coastal cities have always been known to be more liberal.
