Why these three random suburbs? I think they're fairly comparable. They have similar racial and income demographics. Good mix of working class and upper middle class professionals. Similar in population 40,000-60,000. A mixture of older smaller planned housing and newer developments with mcmansions. Most have town centers or some form of "suburban downtown". However all three have schools which are hit or miss at best. My question is which of these three suburbs could you best see settling down with a family?

Basically, do you want to be in a suburb of NYC, DC or Atlanta. I chose Bowie, then Orange and Smyrna last.

Median household income(2010-2014) for Orange(its school district) is $32,749, for Bowie it is/was $106,396 and Smyrna it is/was $61,333. Demographically, they differ as well.

Bowie by far. Nice, affordable town close to Annapolis, Baltimore and Washington. Smyrna would be second, only because Orange has atrocious property taxes.

Bowie first, Smyrna second, Orange third. Bowie is relatively quiet and suburban, but it's location is awesome being between DC, Baltimore, and Annapolis.

A better replacement for Orange would probably be South Orange and/or Maplewood(both are in the same SD) in terms of NJ. Maybe Teaneck as well.

Probably should have mentioned I was including both West and South Orange in this discussion. I've known people from those places who say they're from "Orange NJ"

I've also heard them use "The Oranges" as well.

I see what you meant. Orange and East Orange are more working class, with some on other ends as well. West Orange and South Orange are more middle class(generally straight to upper). If they formed one city, it would run the gamut in terms of income and would probably be more like Bowie demographically.

Something about Smyrna that makes my ass itch. I just don't know what it is.
