Good point...Asheville has a huge amount of historic structures but Savannah is laid out in all of those beautiful squares that make it so unique among American cities. It was planned very well, or at least it's true of the historic district and surrounding area.

Asheville. Charleston is prettier than Savannah.

Charleston is beautiful, but the design of Savannah around the historic squares gives it the edge to me. It's very unique and easy to navigate.

No, Charleston is not prettier.

It's also not as open or welcoming as Savannah to newcomers.

There's an old story that one of the first questions new residents of Savannah are asked by locals is "what do you like to drink?"

In Charleston it's "who is your family?" There is a ring of truth to this...

'Rhett Butler you aren't received by any decent family in Charleston...not even your own."

That about sums it up.

Both are perfect in their own setting.
Mountain and sea. I'd like to live in Ashville in the summer and Savannah in the winter if I could afford it.
