For pure fun/entertainment Vegas is untouchable....For a mixture of pure fun/entertainment and also history and culture than New Orleans is pretty hard to beat.
Both Vegas and New Orleans are top 5 fun/party cities in the US with Vegas arguably being number 1 and New Orleans being somewhere in 3-5...
To live?? Neither....Vegas is filled with tons of transients and it's hard to meet people (since most people are just passing through there) and most of the people who do live there are thrashy as hell...New Orleans has nice people, but is hot as hell in the summer and has lots of poverty & crime.
For fun/party cities I would rank it something like
1.) Vegas
2.) Miami
3.) New York City
4.) New Orleans
5.) Los Angeles
Of the top 5 I would only live in NYC or LA....I would never live in Vegas, New Orleans or Miami....
It surely doesn't crush NOLA. It's just your opinion.
not too familiar with nyc. just looked it up on yelp, looks like there are a few 24 hour banks and barbers and things like that in the city, so it is definitely in the running for most 24 hour city in the US. honestly, the US doesn't have any true 24 hour cities in my view, vegas is simply the best i have seen so far in the country. not talking about nightlife, just speaking as someone who doesn't sleep much and can't stand most US cities for their lack of nighttime amenities.
and you're right, it is just my opinion that vegas absolutely crushes new orleans. that's what this thread is about, opinions, right?
Vegas is becoming less and less about the casinos as each year passes.
I think it's gone in different directions. There's the family oriented theme part style resorts, there's City Center aiming to be an upscale faux urban experience, there's efforts to revitalize downtown. East Fremont in Downtown is turning into a Hipster District.
Las Vegas by a mile. New Orleans is notorious for its outrageous murder rate and overall crime rate. No thank you, I'll pass.
Chile, please. The places you want to be in N.O. are just as safe as The Strip.
